Dambwa Release

26 August 2011 marked the release of a pride of six captive bred female lions into a specially semi-wild area deep within the Dambwa forest, by Lion Encounter one of Antelope Park's sister organisations in conjunction with the African Lion Environmental Trust (ALERT). This was in conjunction with the local community and authorities such as the Zambia Wildlife Authority, Forestry Department. Now the lions are ready and prepared for life on their own. A sustainable male will be added to the pride at a later date, but this time without a hustle of amorous males will allow the female to find their feet and ensure the close bond between them is cemented.

These lions are part of the African Lion Rehabilitation and Release into the Wild Programme that is seeking to create a protocol to be able to release into the wild offspring of these captive bred lions. Read more http://dambwa.wordpress.com/2011/08/27/release-day/
