A dream celebration… As the bridal party approaches, drum rhythms and vocal harmonies greet her arrival - her awaiting groom stands transfixed by the vision. From the far side of the valley, his beautiful, gorgeous bride is arriving … on the back of the most enigmatic animals of all time, an elephant! This is the moment all girls have dreamed of since they were five. However, she knows this day will surpass all her expectations … Stepping out onto the elephant ramp platform, the sweeping Midlands bushveld landscape provides a stunning backdrop for this once-in-a-lifetime celebration. This is Antelope Park … one of the most romantic, unique wedding venues in Zimbabwe.
Guests at Antelope Park can walk with a pride of young lions and swim with a family of elephants all within the space of a few hours. Imagine joining a handful of curious captive-bred lion cubs on an afternoon walk, observing and appreciating these special predators as their instinctive ‘wild’ behaviour comes to the fore. Watch as they chase shadows and sniff down rabbit holes, perhaps they might even give chase to a small mammal or climb a nearby tree. This is all part of their naturalisation process and will be important experiential learning when they one day have to fend for themselves after being returned to one of Africa’s protected wilderness areas. Antelope Park is home to the African Lion Environmental and Research Trust (ALERT) and is one of Zimbabwe’s best kept secrets. Enjoyed for decades by Zimbabweans and visitors alike, Antelope Park offers its guests a one-of-a-kind wild experience, with a conscience. Situated just outside of Gweru, in the Midlands Province, with over 3000 acres of sweeping savanna, Antelope Park is the centre of a unique and truly inspirational conservation programme focusing on the rehabilitation and release of captive bred lions. A celebration like no other… Once all the vows have been said (and the unity is confirmed short of the lion cubs objecting!), photograph opportunities abound at Antelope Park – elephants, lion cubs, dams, bushveld, and plains game form the perfect setting for wedding photographs. And the guests won’t miss out on anything as they sip ice cold champagne and indulge in some scrummy canapés all served under the shade of the msassa trees, watching the sun set over the dam.
